The inauguration of the 49th Academic year of the Institute Mater Dei, Goa was held on 9th June, 2012. Mater Dei caters to 125 hailing from India and Myanmar, and belonging to 55 Congregations.Keeping in line with the Universal Church in this Year of faith the new session selected the theme “TO REDISCOVER OUR JOURNEY OF FAITH. Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Daman presided over both the Eucharistic celebration and the inaugural function. The Archbishop highlighted the theme quoting Pope Benedict XVI “It will be a moment of grace and commitment to an ever fuller conversion to God, to reinforce our faith in him and to proclaim him with joy to the people of our time”. Speaking on the theme TO REDISCOVER OUR JOURNEY OF FAITH he presented various personalities in the Bible like Abraham, Blessed Virgin Mary, Esther, and David. By Faith Blessed Virgin Mary and Abraham surrendered their life to God’s will, a total self gift to God. They became channels of Holy Spirit, source of blessing for others. Faith in God enabled them to sacrifice their only son.He exhorted the student sisters to have three Hs in their journey of faith, i.e. to become Holy, Humble, and Helpful and to have a renewed relationship with God and one another and with everything around us.
Sr. Mary Regis Kizhakkevattam, SRA superior and dean of studies of the institute, welcomed the gathering. Fr. Antony Lopez CSsR gave the key note address. Fr. Antony Lopez in his key note address said, “that our God is a God of the present, who is present in all, who wants to fulfill his wish in each of us. Therefore we need to see everything in the eyes of faith, not holding on to our ways.”
There are 27 students for the Animation Programme, for student Formators; 67 for the certificate course for one year Theology, 6 for the certificate course in Philosophy and the rest for BTh degree course ( Ist year B.Th 7, II year B.Th 13, III year B.Th 5). The cultural group of the Institute presented a skit depicting the theme, high lighting faith as something which brings transformation in oneself and enables one to abide by the values of Christ. Sr. Benedicta D’Cunha III year B.Th student proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme ended with the singing of the institute’s anthem, saluting and invoking the blessings of the Mother of God on the new academic year.
