Inauguration 2015-2016
30th - Aug 2015

The Inauguration of the 51st Academic year of the Institute Mater Dei, Goa was held on 6h June, 2015. Keeping in line with the Universal Church in this Year of consecrated life the new session selected the theme “TO BE WITNESSES OF JOY”.Most Rev.Archbishop Felipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Daman who is also the Patron of the Institute presided over both the Eucharistic celebration and the inaugural function.  Speaking on the occasion the Archbishop exhorted the students that they are to grow unto the fullness of Christ, and that is to walk with Christ, to build with Christ and to shepherd with Christ. Drawing inspiration from the Apostolic letter, ‘Witnesses of Joy” of Pope Francis he further said that asconsecrated persons each one is called to be grateful, to be joyful and to be hopeful, to live in communion with the Lord and with one another, to build up communities of love.

The speakers of the occasion Sr. Rita Pinto RSCJ chairperson of IMD and the president of the CRWI, Sr. Jacintha D’souza DHM, president IMD and the CRWI vice president, Sr Pushpa Joseph FMM, the outgoing president IMD also stressed the importance of theological training and formation, in order to bring about a transformation in themselves, to become leaders after the model of Christ. Theologizing would help them to interpret life experiences from the perspective of the other, to reach out to the other in service, in charity andcompassion, to have meaningful dialogue with different cultures and groups of people.Sr. Pushpa Joseph FMM recommended the students to have a qualitative approach to time and not the quantitative approach, because the qualitative approach will enable them to find out how much they have given to the other and what they have become at the end of their study and not what they have learned.

In this year of Consecrated life Institute Mater Dei is blessed with 150 student sisters belonging to 50 different congregations and from different parts of India. There are 99sisters for one year certificate course in theology, 31 sisters for one year Animation Course for Formators, 10 sisters for one year certificate course for Philosophy, 4 sisters for first year B.Th, five sisters and one lay woman (6) for second year B.Th.  The third batch of B.Th, 6 sisters will be appearing for their comprehensive exams in July 2015.
