The Institute Mater Dei conferred the degree of bachelorette in Theology (B.Th) to its first batch of women religious, during the valedictory function held on 29th March 2014 in its premises. It was an occasion of great rejoicing, as it marked the fulfillment of a long cherished dream of many visionary religious women.
The sisters in one year certificate course in Theology, and Animation Programme for Formators had successfully completed their studies and were awarded their certificates. During the convocation cum valedictory function Most Rev, Felipe Neri Ferrao Arch bishop of Goa and Daman who presided over the function while congratulating the sisters exhorted them to become persons after the image and likeness of Christ. That is by journeying with Jesus, becoming humble persons reaching out to the broken humanity in order to build them up thus restoring them to wholeness.
Sr. Rita Pinto, the president CRWI, Sr. Pushpa Joseph the president IMD appreciated the students and inspired them by their thought provoking messages. Thus everyone was encouraged to become genuine disciples of Jesus, by putting on his values in life and that is what learning theology means.
Institute Mater Dei, initially called Santa Monica, the first Convent in Asia, managed by the Conference of Women Religious of India, Women’s section (CRWI) presently offers four courses to both lay and religious, that is One year Certificate course in Philosophy (60 credits), Three year Degree course in Theology, One year certificate course in Theology, One year Animation Programme for Formators. The B.Th and Philosophy classes are conducted here as an extension center of JDV, Pune. These courses are attended by women religious from India as well as from neighbouring countries.
